Speaker Mark Southcombe discusses cohousing. As home ownership becomes more unaffordable people are looking for new ways of living. Cohousing or collective urban housing is a new model of shared housing that has sparked growing interest at grass roots level in New Zealand and internationally. Watch the video.
Architect Mark Southcombe will discuss some of the issues and opportunities associated with the emerging Collective Urban Housing movement and its establishment in NZ. He will present models and case studies for the establishment and operation of Collective Urban Housing projects and look at recent research on the arguments for and against shared housing models. He will focus on three models of implementation, one of which involves social agency and has very real social sustainability potential.
