My undergraduate degree was in social geography and anthropology, looking at how people and cultures understand, interact with and make sense of their physical world. I have studied a range of society and culture, development, health, sustainability and planning papers at Otago University in Dunedin, and Uppsala University in Sweden.

My areas of interest are: community resilience (and empowerment), resource use (especially food), waste reduction, alternative transport, and the role of planning practice in the sustainability of our societies, especially urban areas. I have also spent a year involved with Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA), volunteering at a legal education centre in Cambodia, working with land and labour law issues. This has helped to nurture an interest in development, human rights and advocacy.
