RESEARCH INTERESTS

George is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (UK), the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand and a Foundation Member of the New Zealand Energy Management Association. He was a recipient of the 1999 NZ Science and Technology Bronze Medal, the 2002 IPENZ Technical Award in the field of Energy Engineering, and the 2006 International Pioneers of the World Renewable Energy Network Award.

His research interests include:

  • Building performance
  • Users’ perceptions of sustainable buildings in terms of their environmental and operational performance and their influence on health and productivity
  • User performance benchmarks
  • Low energy design and operation of commercial and institutional buildings
  • Internal environments of buildings – thermal, air quality, acoustic and lighting conditions in practice
  • Sustainable and regenerative systems in building design and retrofit
