RESEARCH INTERESTS

Originally from the UK, but have a passion for Wellington City after 4 years here. My interests are in integrated and sustainable long term urban transport solutions; particularly the roles public transport, walking and cycling can play. Transport mode choice is influenced by a multitude of structural and psychological factors which are broadly common to many cities but I believe local research with public participation is essential to pull out anomalies and lead towards specific transport solutions.

My current Masters research is looking at the opportunities for, and barriers to, integrated ticketing in the Greater Wellington region as part of a strategy to increase public transport uptake and reduce driving. Integrated ticketing allows users of public transport to travel using a single ticket regardless of the service operator or mode of transport used. It is designed to make public transport more convenient and cost effective.

The research aims to look at the general advantages and disadvantages of integrated ticketing and identify public and stake-holder's attitudes towards integrated ticketing on a regional and national scale for New Zealand. Information will be collected by a series of interviews and an online survey running throughout August - (participants from the Greater Wellington region welcome!). I hope to determine how integrated ticketing might affect public transport use for Wellington.
