Getting inspired about making cities more sustainable

Prompted by a Radio NZ programme (Tommy Honey, ‘Urbanist’, 22 September 2014), Ralph Chapman samples the range of interesting literature and journalism that has emerged in recent years about remaking cities to be more sustainable:

Encourage cycling, as with Copenhagen’s work to build cycling infrastructure

Take cars off the road, as with Hamburg’s work to reorient the city centre away from cars, or Helsinki’s efforts to build an integrated alternative transport network and minimise car travel

Intensify housing, improve urban amenity, and improve accessibility
