Wellington’s open spaces

We made a submission to Wellington City Council on its draft open spaces and recreation framework for 2013-2023. We think that:

  • Maximum and equitable accessibility to open spaces for all groups in society is a key principle.
  • Open spaces are an important complement to intensification of residential or commercial development so that people living in greater density still have access to open and green areas.
  • As well as the recreation, sports and natural values of open spaces, we need to recognise what urban open spaces provide us in amenity, historical, cultural, and ecosystem service values.
