Do Something! Seminar – Tuesday 18 May

7.30pm at Ramsey House, 8 Kelburn Parade, Kelburn.

The next Do Something! seminar will be held on Tuesday 18 May and the topic is Transport, Peak Oil and Climate Change. The issues:

  • Transport accounts for over $3billion of the Government’s yearly budget. With ‘peak oil’ around the corner, are we spending that money wisely?
  • Emissions from our transport sector went up by 64% between 1990 and 2006. Will the Emissions Trading Scheme be enough to get that under control?
  • Decisions made now about roading and rail infrastructure affects the shape of our cities and towns for decades into the future; what sort of cities do we want to live in?
  • Come hear Dr Chris Harris (North Shore City Council), Kathy Perreau (Ministry of Transport) and Kent Duston (Save the Basin/Mt Victoria Residents’ Association) address these important issues. This is part of the Do Something! Seminar series sponsored by HumanFM. Get audio and video of the presentations at www.dosomething.org.nz.

Future dates for Do Something! Seminars are:
Tuesday 25 May Powering New Zealand – electricity supply and demand in a decarbonated world
Tuesday 1 June Undermining Democracy? Urgency in the House, the Auckland Super City and the ECan shake up

Do Something! will be back again after the Semester break, when they will take a look at fisheries, multinationals in the Pacific, rubbish and war.
