The recommendations contained within the report of the Climate Change office were passed unanimously by Wellington city council committee on the 3rd of Dec.
Together with a range of proposed additional work (within existing resources) there are five “new initiatives” (ie seeking new funding)
Adaptation: ie, Vulnerability and response assessments
. Residential energy efficiciency: ie, areas not covered by the govt’s Warmup NZ scheme such as lighting and low-flow shower heads
· Commercial energy efficiency: ie, lighting, auto controls, etc
· Council energy effciency: ie, continuation of a programme to reduce energy use across council facilities
· Electric vehicles trial: ie, support selected options to facilitate EV technology

The process from here is that the actions contained in the report will go out for public consultation early next year – seeking agreement for inclusion in the 2010/11 Annual Plan. As we will be seeking feedback, please pass this message on to your networks with an interest in climate change. More information will be coming out in the New Year.
