Civic and urban agriculture as one response to sustainable cities

On 30 June, Jane Dixon from the Australian National University gave an informative seminar about understanding and quantifying the full implications of the industrial food supply for urban and rural ecosystems, population health and the social capital of local communities.  There is growing consensus that the diets in affluent countries such as Australia and New Zealand, rich in meat protein, dairy and pre-prepared foods, are not sustainable in environmental or public health terms.
